Swim Spas - Exercise Spas - Endless Pools

Since Summit Leisure started to import the USSPA Swim Spas about six years ago they have seen the market and awareness for the product, from a quite diverse customer base, increase dramatically.

Being a comparatively compact unit to that of a traditional pooland with less installation upheaval and lower installation cost, particularly if the above ground version in a cabinet is used, the Swim Spa is appealing to property owners with limited space outdoors. It is of particular appeal to homeowners who want an indoor installation, usually installed inground, but still a simple and quick installation.

Keep fit is an obvious attraction and requirement for all age groups and they appreciate they can swim and exercise effectively in a Swim Spa. Young families are starting to opt for the Swim Spa concept because they can see it provides them with everything a traditional pool would offer at a lower capital cost and lower ongoing running costs and, most importantly, even with no previous experience of either a traditional pool or Swim Spa, they can see Swim Spas are easier to maintain due to the high level of automation and inbuilt technology. Nearly all our customers are using their SwimSpa all year round and don't find winter running costs prohibitive.

The USSPA SwimSpa and Universum spa range is distributed in the UK by Summit Leisure. The emphasis on all USSPA products is innovative design and exceptionally high build quality. The two models of Swim Spas offered typifies this philosophy.

The acrylic shell is reinforced to such a degree that that the unit is self supporting. It can be filled free standing with absolutely no external support. This makes in ground installation very simple. All that is required is a simple concrete block chamber with a level concrete base and the shell is simply lowered into it. No backfilling or additional support is required. All the equipment is housed within the area of the unit so there is no external plant room required, just a hatch to occasionally access the pumps and control equipment. The complete underside of the shell is sprayed with foam which, combined with the hot tub style rigid covers, ensures the unit is incredibly well insulated and minimises running costs.

If the above ground version is opted for, the same self supporting shell is used but it is clad in a Thermowood cabinet. Thermowood is a specially dried and treated soft wood that weathers beautifully, is incredibly durable and requires no ongoing maintenance.

Two models are offered. The traditional Spa Spas which are 4.5 meters long and 2.37 meters wide and the recently introduced SwimSpa XL which is 5.5 meters long, a fraction wider and deeper. There are some differences in the filtration system on the XL due to the larger capacity of water but the important exercise facility is the same on both units. A variable and controllable stream of water provided by three pumps produces 3000 litres of water per minute through six direction adjustable jets installed in a "w" shape formation. This formation provides a current that is not only sufficient to satisfy the most energetic swimmer but it also allows part of its pressure to flow under the body of the swimmer and ensures their legs are kept horizontal and not hitting the floor. This also permits the SwimSpas not to have to be too deep which can be quite obtrusive if it's being installed above ground. One of the pumps can be diverted to a bank of spa jets mounted in the built in steps to provide a very effective spa facility.

USSPA Swim Spas are installed by Summit Leisure's own installation team throughout the UK - see a swim spa installation case study and our swimspas gallery.
